A New 'Demon Cavefish' Lives Beneath a U.S. Military Base

The discovery beneath Redstone Arsenal is strange enough without the base’s conspiracy lore: the fish is a distinct, highly specialized cave lineage.
Unexplained Mysteries reports that scientists named the new species Demogorgonichthys arcanus. It has no eyes or skin pigment, occupies a small subterranean pool, and differs enough from neighboring cavefish to be assigned its own biological subgroup.
The military setting has encouraged alien-technology speculation around the story, but the evidence points to long-term evolution in an isolated habitat. The stronger mystery is scientific: a cave monitored for decades still held an undocumented freshwater genus in a region researchers believed was already well surveyed.
