NASA Launches the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope

Original reporting by T.K. Randall for Unexplained Mysteries

Roman is designed to survey enormous areas of sky, searching for exoplanets while probing dark matter, black holes, and the expansion of the universe.

Unexplained Mysteries reports that the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope launched from Florida and is traveling toward an observing point roughly one million miles from Earth. Its wide-field instrument is designed to capture panoramas covering about 100 times the area seen in a typical Hubble view.

That scale should allow Roman to monitor vast populations of stars, find worlds through gravitational microlensing, and map cosmic structures linked to dark matter and dark energy. The observatory honors Nancy Grace Roman, NASA’s first chief astronomer and a central figure in the effort that ultimately produced Hubble.
