Pluto's Atmosphere Is Beginning to Freeze Onto Its Surface

Stellar-occultation measurements indicate that Pluto’s atmospheric pressure has started falling as the dwarf planet moves into a colder part of its orbit.
Unexplained Mysteries reports that observations of Pluto passing in front of distant stars show its atmosphere beginning to contract. On the dwarf planet’s 248-year orbit, declining sunlight allows atmospheric gases to condense and settle as frost on the surface.
Researchers do not expect the atmosphere to disappear permanently. As Pluto eventually moves closer to the Sun, surface frost should sublimate and thicken the atmosphere again. The signal is a dramatic seasonal cycle operating on a timescale far longer than a human lifetime.
